11.12.2025 AGROFIG Project Introduction and Information Meeting Held in Aydın

An introductory meeting for the AGROFIG Project – “Promoting Agroforestry Benefits through Fig Tree Cultivation in the Mediterranean”, which was approved for funding under the PRIMA 2024 Second Call of the EU Horizon Programme, represented in Türkiye by TUBITAK, was held with broad participation.

The project, partnered by Aydın Adnan Menderes University and supported by the Aydın Commodity Exchange, aims to introduce innovative approaches in agroforestry, develop practical field-based models, and enhance sustainability in fig cultivation.

During the meeting, participants were informed about the project’s innovative methods, research themes, and planned workshop activities. The opening speech was delivered by Prof. Dr. Mustafa Sürmen, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at Aydın Adnan Menderes University. Expert presentations on agroforestry practices, innovative fig production methods, and SWOT analysis were delivered by academic and sector representatives.

In his evaluation of the workshop, Fevzi Çondur, Chairman of Aydın Commodity Exchange, emphasized the strategic importance of expanding sustainable agricultural techniques in fig production for the regional economy. He stated that the AGROFIG Project represents a significant step toward shaping the agricultural future of Aydın and reaffirmed the Exchange’s commitment to supporting projects that strengthen climate-resilient production models and enhance international competitiveness in agriculture.
