Aydın Commodity Exchange delegation attended the conference titled “Current Developments Regarding Geographical Indications in Turkey and the European Union” hosted by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office in Ankara.
Aydın Commodity Exchange Assembly President A. Bahri Erdel, Vice President of the Board of Directors Cengiz Ülgen, Secretary General Neslihan Duymaz and Geographical Indications Consultant Huriye Özener attended the event. Roadmap of Geographical Indications in Turkey and the EU Discussed The conference began with the opening speeches of Turkish Patent and Trademark Office President Prof. Dr. Muhammed Zeki Durak and European Directorate General for Agriculture and Rural Development Geographical Indications Department Head Mr. João Onofre. The program covered Turkey’s geographical indication ecosystem, the European Union’s agricultural geographical indication framework and the latest developments regarding the expansion of geographical indication protection in the EU in detail.
Aydın Memecik Zeytini Receive EU Registration Honor At the conference, the geographical indication registration certificate of Aydın Memecik Zeytini, which was registered by the European Union on March 12, 2025, was presented to Aydın Commodity Exchange Assembly President A. Bahri Erdel and Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors Cengiz Ülgen by the President of the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office Prof. Dr. Muhammed Zeki Durak and the Head of the EU
Geographical Indications Department Mr. João Onofre. Fevzi Çondur: “We Are a Strong Promotion Tool from Local to Global” In his evaluation of the conference, Aydın Commodity Exchange Board of Directors President Fevzi Çondur drew attention to the fact that products with geographical mindications carry strategic values not only in terms of cultural heritage but also support local development. He emphasized that Aydın Memecik Zeytini receiving EU registration will increase the reliability of the product in international markets and provide economic added value to the region.
