15 November 2025 Saturday
In Aydın, which is the leader in fig production in the world, the “First Purchasing Ceremony of Dried Fig for the 2025-2026 Season” was hosted by Aydın Commodity Exchange. Aydın Governor Yakup Canbolat, provincial protocol, directors of institutions, heads of chambers and stock exchanges and many producers attended the ceremony organized to support the production of dried figs, one of the most important agricultural products of the provincial economy, to encourage the producers and to start the season with abundance.
Within the scope of the ceremony, the first dried fig of the season was symbolically received from the producers at 800 TL per kilogram by Aydın Commodity Exchange.
“Fig is the brand value of Aydın”
Speaking at the ceremony, Aydın Governor Yakup Canbolat emphasized the strategic importance of the city in fig production both in Turkey and worldwide:
"Turkey is the homeland of figs and the world's highest quality figs are grown in Aydın and its districts thanks to its climate and soil structure. Our fig, which has an EU registered geographical indication, is the brand value of our province. Approximately 16 thousand farmers produce figs. There are 167 fig warehouses and 142 fig enterprises in our province. According to the 2023 data of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Turkey ranked first in the world with a production of 356 thousand tons. In 2024, 375 thousand tons of fresh figs were produced in our country, of which 210 thousand tons were obtained only from Aydın. This data clearly shows Aydın's leadership in this field. We will continue to stand by our producers and traders at every stage from production to marketing. I wish the new season to be fruitful and profitable for our producers."
“Prices may be close to last year's closing”
In his speech at the ceremony, Aydın Commodity Exchange Chairman Fevzi Çondur stated that the price performance of last season satisfied the producers:
"Last year, our average purchase from producers was 173 lira 47 kurus. Achieving this average in a year when most agricultural products were sold at lower prices compared to the previous year was pleasing for our producers. In the 2024-2025 season, a total of 57 thousand 320 tons of dried figs were exported, of which 43 thousand 213 tons were exported from Aydın. After the season that closed at around 250 TL last year, there was no stock transfer this year. This is a positive indicator for the market. If there is no extraordinary situation, we expect the new season to open with prices of 250 TL and above."
Stating that dried figs were purchased from a total of 13 producers at the ceremony, Çondur said, "4 producers from Buharkent, 2 from Kuyucak, 2 from Köşk, 4 from Germencik and 1 producer from İncirliova delivered their products. The first product of the season was symbolically purchased at 800 TL per kilogram under the leadership of our Governor."
