Aydın Commodity Exchange Speaker A. Bahri Erdel and Secretary General Neslihan Duymaz attended Chestnut Symposium Opening Ceremony organized for the first time in our country with the contriibutions of Aydın Commodity Exchange and Aydın Adnan Menderes University coordinated.  

Chestnut Symposium began in Aydın, which ranks first in chestnut production in Turkey. The opening ceremony of the symposium was attended by Aydın Governor Hüseyin Aksoy, Kocarlı District Governor Ersin Tepeli, Aydın Adnan Menderes University Rector Prof. Doc. Osman Selcuk Aldemir, Dean Prof. Doc. Ibrahim Gencsoylu, Aydın Commodity Exchange Speaker A. Bahri Erdel, Efeler Chamber of Agriculture Chairman Mehmet Kendirlioglu, Kosk Chamber of Agriculture Chairman Veli Tuna, Managers of Public Institutions and Organizations, may domestic and foreign academicians and producers.

Following the moment of silince and singing the Turkish National Anthem, President of Chestnut Symposium Prof. Doc. Engin Ertan made the opening speech. Mr. Ertan stated that they organized many scientific meetings for the future of chestnuts. He thanked to the institution and organization, contributed to the Chestnut Symposium, which was held in the version of a workshop and research board, also.

Stating that Aydın has much favorable and strong agricultural potential, Aydın Governor Hüseyin Aksoy said that chestnut is an important part of the country due to the employment and it provides to the country's economy and added value it creates. 30.4 percent of Turkey's chestnut production is met by our province. In world chestnut production, our country ranks fourth after China, Spain and Bolivia. According to 2021 TUIK (Turkish Statical Institute) data, 77 thousand 792 tons of chestnut production was realized in our country and an export of 35 million 115 thousand dollars was realized from chestnut exports. In 2021, 23 thousand 673 tons of chestnut production was realized in our province and Aydın ranks first in chestnut production in Turkey, especially Nazllli district ranks first with 9 thousand 821 tons. Nazilli district is followed by Sultanhisar, Kosk, Bozdogan and Cine districts repectively. In our city, 22 dacilities that make chestnut sorting, sorting and packaging, 2 facilities that produce finished products such as chestnut sugar. As a result of the agricultural quarantine controls, 3 thousand 121 tons of chestnuts in 2020 and 3 thousand 317 tons in 2021 were allowed to be exported by issuing a health certificate. The symposium will discuss the problems of chestnut production and increase the product diversity of chestnuts so that the added value is at higher level and can generate more income.

Stating on the Chestnut Symposium, A. Bahri Erdel added that The Chestnut Symposium, which was held under the coordination of Aydın Adnan Menderes University with the contributions of Aydın Commodity Exchange, was a meeting on chestnut production. Our academicians, institutions and organization officials who participated from home and abroad shared many values such as R&D studies, export process, commercial value and PDO importances. Mr. Erdel wish the symposium to be beneficial to all our stakeholders and thanked to the participants.
