The harvest season for Aydın Kestanesi, an important agricultural product with a European Union Geographical Indication, has begun. The Aydın Commodity Exchange purchased the season’s first chestnuts from producers at 550 TL per kilogram.
The ceremony was attended by Fevzi Çondur, Chairman of the Aydın Commodity Exchange, Assembly Members, Ayhan Temiz, Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry, regional institution directors, chamber and exchange presidents, and producers.
Chairman Çondur highlighted that Aydın leads Turkey in chestnut production, with approximately 871,211 out of 3,017,855 chestnut trees nationwide located in the province. He noted that about one-third of Turkey’s chestnut production comes from Aydın and emphasized the economic contribution of Aydın Chestnuts, which hold an EU Geographical Indication.
The first chestnuts of the season were delivered by 12 producers from Köşk, Sultanhisar, and Efeler districts, totaling 131 kilograms. Chairman Çondur wished a prosperous season to producers, traders, and exporters.
