The 16th Ordinary Financial General Assembly Meeting of the Ulusal Pamuk Konseyi (National Cotton Council) was held at the İzmir Aegean Exporters' Associations with broad participation from sector stakeholders and council members. During the meeting, the current state of the cotton sector was discussed, evaluations were made regarding the past period, and the importance of establishing a common roadmap for the upcoming process was emphasized.
Fevzi Çondur, Chairman of the Board of the National Cotton Council, highlighted that cotton is a strategic agricultural product and provided assessments on the challenges and opportunities faced by the sector across the entire chain from production to industry. Mr. Condur stated that the sustainability of cotton production, increasing productivity, and protecting producers are among the top priorities.
In his speech, Çondur also addressed the impact of global developments on cotton markets, evaluating the effects of climate change, rising input costs, and fluctuations in global cotton trade on the sector. Mr. Condur emphasized the importance of acting collectively with all stakeholders in the upcoming period.
During the general assembly meeting, the activities and work carried out by the National Cotton Council in the previous period were discussed in detail. Projects contributing to the development of the sector, meetings held, and collaborations conducted with public institutions were shared with participants. Chairman Fevzi Çondur underlined the importance of dialogue and collective wisdom in solving the problems experienced in the cotton sector and stated that the Council is determined to continue its coordination role in this process.
Subsequently, the 2024 activity report was submitted to the approval of the general assembly. The work carried out throughout the year, sectoral meetings, reporting, and monitoring activities were evaluated in detail. The report particularly highlighted efforts to increase cotton production, improve quality standards, and raise sectoral awareness. Participants expressed that the Council’s activities in 2024 made significant contributions to the sector.
The general assembly also discussed future objectives for the cotton sector and the strategies to be followed in the upcoming period. It was emphasized that establishing a common roadmap in line with the expectations of producers, industrialists, and other stakeholders is essential. The meeting concluded with a consensus on enhancing the sector’s competitiveness, supporting domestic production, and protecting cotton as a strategic product, followed by closing wishes and remarks.
